Jackknifed truck leads to four fatalities in I-10 bus accident

San Diego Wrongful Death, Jackie Clinton Jackson found dead

A San Diego man who was the victim of a suspected wrongful death died at a hospital on April 24th after being found unconscious in the street by his San Carlos house. The man has been identified as 52 year old Jackie Clinton Jackson Jr.. San Diego police are investigating the death as a possible hit-and-run. A neighbor called police about 5:10 a.m. after seeing Mr. Jackson at the foot of a driveway on Beaver Lake Drive, east of Cowles Mountain Boulevard. Mr. Jackson was on the ground between two parked vehicles and was unresponsive when medics arrived. Mr. Jackson was then transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was overcome by his injuries and died hours after admission.

UPDATE FedEx Wrongful Death, first suit in I-5 school bus head-on

The mother of a 17-year-old student who was among 10 people killed in a highway crash on Interstate-5 earlier this month has filed suit against FedEx for the wrongful death of their child. The suit, filed on April 22nd in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses the FedEx driver of negligence and alleges that FedEx failed to properly maintain its vehicles in safe working condition.

The first wrongful death claim against General Motors (GM) has been filed in the wake of revelations that GM was aware of an automotive defect for over a decade, but failed to take appropriate corrective measures. The defect involves the ignition switch in the Saturn Ion and the Chevy Cobalt. If the car's keys have a heavy keychain on them while the keys are in the ignition, the extra weight can cause the ignition switch to suddenly turn off. This causes the car's steering, braking, and airbags to deactivate, leaving the occupants in the vehicle in peril. GM reported that the defect has been linked to twelve deaths. Independent reports suggest the figure is more than three hundred deaths.

Wrongful Death, Uber Expands Coverage for San Diego Victims

Following a precedent-setting wrongful death suit brought against Uber earlier this year, Uber and Lyft have expanded their insurance policies to cover accidents that occur while a driver is accepting fares but is not currently transporting a customer. Prior to the change, Uber's insurance policy would only cover their drivers' accidents if they were carrying a customer at the time the accident occurred. If an accident occurred while the driver did not have a fare, the only source of recovery for the victims was the driver's personal insurance coverage.

Tragic Hit-and-Run Wrongful Death, 81 Year-Old San Ysirdo Victim

A hit and run driver caused the wrongful death of an 81 year-old married San Ysirdo man on February 9, 2014. Alonso Florez Pacheco was struck as he was walking south on East San Ysirdo Boulevard at 6:02 a.m. The vehicle that struck and killed Mr. Pacheco was a black vehicle travelling westbound. After striking Mr. Pacheco, the driver immediately fled the scene, leaving Mr. Pacheco for dead.

Wrongful Death of Escondido Man, Hit-and-Run Driver

A hit and run driver caused the wrongful death of a well-known and well-loved Escondido man on February 3rd. Benjamin Ramirez was struck as he was walking home from a friend's house, following his shift at the local Albertson's. The vehicle involved was a white, box U-haul style, truck. After striking Mr. Ramirez, the driver slowed for a moment before fleeing the scene, leaving Mr. Ramirez to die.

Uber Sued for Wrongful Death of San Francisco Girl
