7-year-old girl endures a hundred dog bites during attack

A 7-year-old girl’s ordeal recently made international news after she was attacked by four dogs and suffered from about 100 bites. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been treated for the wounds during the initial surgery but doctors say she will need ongoing medical care and more surgeries in the years to come in order to continue to repair the damage.

The girl and her family were visiting friends who owned the dogs when the attack occurred. It is not clear what preceded it or why the dogs were not being properly supervised or restrained by their owner.

A doctor treating the girl said that any one of the wounds is severe but together the bites all over the girl’s body amount to a lot of tissue damage because of the force of a dog’s jaw when they bite down. This case shows just how damaging dog bites can be and the extent of the injures that can result.

The family has been lucky enough to receive donations to help them pay for the surgeries and other ongoing medical care that the girl will need. However, it is important to remember that it is ultimately the dog owners who are responsible for the damage caused by this attack. In some situations dog owners who fail to adequately control their dogs could face criminal liability, but more often it is up to the victim or their family to seek accountability and pursue monetary damages for the dog bites.

Accidents involving such extreme injuries to children are always the most heartbreaking because the child will carry the wounds for life. This family is lucky they recieved donations. They may have not been able to afford the surgeries otherwise.

Thank you for visiting our blog. We appreciate your comments and invite you to visit and comment often. Injuries sustained by children in dog attack cases carry heavy life-long effects. Hopefully the owner(s) of the animals involved have homeowners or renters insurance that will provide a source of financial relief for this child. In other Blog posts we have discussed the Insurance industry's scurrilous efforts at limiting and excluding coverage for dog attacks.
