Murrieta Lowes Dog Bites, Felony Arrest for Dog Owner

After his large Akita dog viciously attacked a child in a local Murrieta Lowes earlier this year, Robert Kahn was arrested this month on charges of felony negligence. The young victim-who approached the dog to pet him after being invited by the dog's owner-needed an astonishing 50 stitches to close the gaping facial injury and wounds resulting from the dog bites. The story doesn't stop there; the Murrieta Lowes was well-known for allowing dog owners to let their dogs roam freely around the store, leash or no leash, and had no rules or regulations regarding dogs posted whatsoever.

It is well known that dog bites to a child are physically and emotionally traumatic and result in medical bills and reconstructive surgery. What isn't always remembered is that even after all of the medical bills are paid, there is still an even heavier cost to pay: the years of emotional distress and strain and social turmoil a child who suffers disfigurement from a dog bite is forced to endure. Facial injuries and disfigurement are especially difficult for the victim.

While the legal system can never heal the boy's scars, it can help make him whole.  Since we can't go back in time and undo the incident, monetary damages adjudicated in a court of law and payable by the people and businesses responsible, is the way this child, or any child, can be helped.

In California dog owners are strictly liable for injuries and damages caused by their dog attacking and biting another person. In this situation the store may also be liable for this child's injuries and damages, for its negligence in allowing dogs to roam unrestrained and by failing to post any warnings or regulations regarding dogs roaming the store.
