Dog Attack to Child in San Diego County

Another dog attack to a child occurred in San Diego County. A pit bull dog attacked and bit a ten year old girl on Friday, July 13, 2012. The pit bull dog attack occurred at apartments located on North Melrose Drive in Vista, California.

According to reports, the pit bull sunk its teeth into the arm of the child. The girl was bit while playing in the apartment complex pool area. The pit bull was leashed by the pool when the bite occurred. The girl suffered significant bite wounds.

The Department of Animal Services took custody of the dog. Deputies said the dog may have bitten another child within the same apartment complex. This is currently under investigation.

The victim of this attack sustained both physical and emotional injuries. These injuries will impact the child for the rest of her life.

In California, dog owners are strictly liable for the injuries their animal causes should it bite or attack another person. The owner of the dog may have renter's insurance, or homeowner's insurance, which will help make the victim whole.

Further, the apartment complex may have responsibility as well. If the complex owner or management company was negligent in managing or maintaining their property, such as by allowing a known dangerous animal to be present on the property, they too can be held responsible for the injuries and damages of the victim.
