15 Passanger Vans

The Federal Government has issued an advisory regarding 15 passenger vans. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that it was "directing this advisory to church groups, other non-profit organizations and colleges that may be keeping older 15-passenger vans in service longer than usual because of tight transportation budgets. Pre-primary, primary and secondary schools should not use 15-passenger vans for transporting school children, as they do not provide the same level of safety as school buses. It is also against federal law for schools to buy new 15-passenger vans for school transportation purposes".

NHTSA focuses on maintenance and tire inflation. While this is a band-aid in spreading the word about the dangers of these vans it does not go far enough. Regardless of make or model, the design of the vehicle makes them prone to rolling over.

Basically, as the vans are loaded with passengers and equipment the center of gravity of the vehicle shifts upward. The vehicle becomes "top heavy" and more likely to rollover.

In every day driving hazards are encountered which require turning of the vehicle. As the weight of the vehicle shifts a rollover can occur.

Further, the interior is also dangerous. The vehicles do not effectively withstand side impacts and there are little or no safety measures built into the vehicle providing protection.

If you, a family member or an acquaintance has been hurt, or worse, in a Van accident, consult an experienced attorney. Our lawyers at the Law Offices of David P. Beeson are experienced vehicle rollover attorneys. For more information visit our website Contact us at 619-233-6078 or We can help you
